Intro to OM yoga

Taught by Gayla Marie Stiles

$20 per person

Intro to OM yoga will teach brand new beginners the basics of OM yoga in a special, 2-hour class format.  Learn the fundamentals of alignment and breathing, as well as the practice of basic stretches, balancing poses, strengthening exercises, and relaxation techniques. No previous yoga experience is necessary!
Gayla Marie Stiles has nearly 10 years of experience leading diverse populations of people in physical, therapeutic, and creative movement.  She has accumulated her knowledge from her training in Laban Barteneiff Fundamentals, the Pilates Method and OM yoga, as well as her career as a professional modern dancer.  Gayla completed her Dance Medicine Internship in addition to her Core Dynamics Pilates mat Certification in 2000.  Her love of movement and its ability to inspire, educate, and heal naturally drew her to yoga.  Gayla has studied Iyengar, Hatha, Restorative, and Vinyasa styles and has received her teacher training from New York City’s nationally accredited OM Yoga Center.

Yoga for Dancers

Taught by Shila Tirabassi

$20 per person

A balance of dynamic movement within a meditative flow, this special OM yoga class will shed light on alignment principles and breath awareness to help dancers prevent and heal injuries as well as calm the nerves of performance or just daily life!  The logic of OM sequencing offers a sense of harmony while increasing your strength, fluidity, courage and curiosity!  And, since In yoga it's impossible  to be wrong, you will have a lot of fun, too!
Shila Tirabassi,a native of Florida, graduated in 1999 receiving her BFA from The Juilliard School under the direction of Benjamin Harkarvy. Shila began her professional career with Ballet Hispanico of New York.  She was then offered a position in the Martha Graham Company, but sadly, the company’s folding in 2000 didn’t allow her to participate.  Following that, she joined the Merce Cunningham Repertory Group. She has also performed with Buglisi/Foreman Dance, Lar Lubovitch Dance Company, and Mark Morris Dance Group for their “Hard Nut” productions.  This is Shila’s fifth season with Stephen Petronio Company.
