Cyndi's Photo Blog

It's been so much fun sharing yoga with people all over the world. Here's a few pics of my travels.

Las Vegas Yoga Sanctuary, April 2007

Native New Yorker Sherri Goldstein is the director of Yoga Sanctuary.
It was fun working with showgirls, dancers and ordinary folks.

Dave perfects his savasana in Las Vegas.

Yoga on High in Columbus, OH, May 2007

Martha Marcom and Marcia Miller, Yoga on High studio owners and my pals.

I love going to Ohio. The yogis are welcoming, smart, open-hearted, creative. I am inspired by the richness of different ages, different bodies and the vastness of wisdom in this group.

Evolution Yoga Conference, Hong Kong - May 2007

Here I am at the top of Victoria Peak, can you tell I'm trying hard to stay awake? China is exactly halfway around the world from New York.

Most people spoke English, but everybody spoke yoga.

This is Will, a former OMmie, who lives and teaches in Hong Kong now.
One of the best parts of the conference was hanging out with all the other teachers. Here's Seane Corn having lunch in the teacher's lounge.

Hong Kong makes New York seem like a village.

We took a 45 minute ferry boat ride to Lantau Island, China, home of the world's largest Buddha. I totally got sea sick and then car sick riding up the mountain. The air is super polluted and it took me several hours and a couple of cokes to start to feel okay.

Wow Next to the Buddha is a working Chinese Buddhist monastery.
This is one of their altars with lots of offerings and protectors.

Ubud, Bali - May 2007

How did I get here? These are the performers of the famous monkey dance which I studied in college while getting a degree in the History of World Dance. It was beyond thrilling for me to experience this performance live, which is unchanged since ancient times.

We stayed at the Chedi Club at Tanah Gajah. The owner & architect Grahacipta Hadiprana transformed it from a private estate into a resort. This picture is of the walkway to what is still his private home.

Dave meditating in our living room at the Chedi Club. Dave does tree pose in the sacred spring at COMO, Shambhala, further into the jungle.

There were Ganeshes and elephants everywhere at the Chedi Club.
The black and white cloth is traditional in Indonesia and represents two sides of life, dark and light.

Dave, aka my fish husband, takes a dip with the elephants.

Kripalu, July 2007

This is one of my favorite students ever. After years of yoga she is still open to learning new things and inspired us all. And she had a really cute pedicure.

I taught a weekend workshop called Opening the Gates. Here we are multitasking: exploring our crown chakra and doing walking meditation.

Shambhala Mt. Center, Red Feather Lakes, Colorado - July 2007

This is the biggest Stupa in the Western world. The devoted students of Trungpa Rinpoche built it by hand in nine years. It has 3 floors inside. As your practice advances, you can move up to higher floors. Everyone is welcome to practice sitting meditation on the ground floor with the giant Buddha inside. This is the back view, you can see the Mahakala on the second floor.

David and I taught a Yoga Body Buddha Mind weekend. Then I taught an advanced week program called Getting Unstuck, and you can see they did.

This is the Getting Unstuck crew on our way to the Kami shrine, a feminine altar. In keeping with our theme, we all gave something to the shrine to help us let go of our stuckness.

International Yoga Event, Stockholm, Sweden - September 2007

Josephine Selander took many classes with me at OM but she lives in Stockholm and is a well known and highly respected Swedish yoga teacher. She and her husband Frederick made a wonderful dinner for me and their friend Peter: pasta, salad, grapes, chocolate, red wine, and juicy conversation.

Yoga Journal Conference, Estes Park, Colorado - September 2007

I taught lots of classes and met many awesome yogis, but I have to admit, leading two knitting circles in the library was the most fun of all.

India & Nepal, January 2008
Footseps of the Buddha

Here I am looking healthy and happy in Patan, Nepal. It is a very spiritual place with loads of stupas and sacred Buddhist and Hindu sites. Amazing!

This is at Drepung Monastery in the south of India. It is the monastery where Gelek Rimpoche grew up only when he was there it was still in Tibet. It is also the home of HHDL. Here I am getting a blessing from Ling Rimpoche, the current incarnation of the previous LIng Rimpoche who was the senior tutor to HHDL and Gelek Rimpoche. Even though my butt looks huge I still like this pic because my teacher is watching me get a blessing from the reincarnation of his former teacher. Crazy!

Another blessing during the long life ceremony for this revered lama,
Locho Rimpoche.
