A Wrinkle in Time
by Madeline L'Engle

"Wrinkle and yoga are such perfect companions because they both challenge us to openly and compassionately embrace ourselves, face our fears, and shed light on
the darkness."

-- Cyndi Lee

A few words from
Edward Jones,
OM teacher & grandson of Madeleine L'Engle

A Wrinkle in Time was written by my grandmother, Madeleine L'Engle, in 1962. Since then, it has inspired generations of readers to contemplate the interconnected nature of our lives and our place in the pattern. While my grandmother is not a yogi, her work has always explored relationship, using story and metaphor to illustrate deep truths about how we all participate in shaping our world. Wrinkle specifically urges us to recognize that our individual choices in loving ourselves and those around us have great power. Most important, we learn that expressing love is not a display of that power, but a surrendering to it.

When we surrender to a yoga pose, when we let go of the struggle to be some perfect version of ourselves and let the actual experience of our body and our breath fill our awareness, loving kindness has a chance to replace self-recrimination. Meg Murry, the protagonist of Wrinkle, finds that what she perceives as her shortcomings ultimately save her. Our yoga practice continually offers us the opportunity to be fully alive and awake to ourselves, owning up to our limitations with compassion and honesty, and transforming our bodies and minds with grace and joy.

I'm so excited to have a book so close to my heart find a place at OM! I hope that the wonderful ideas presented in Wrinkle will inform your practice. Namaste.
