BRIAN LIEM

Brian Liem's basic interests are connecting the practices of mindfulness and kindness within the worldly issues of human rights and relationships through his living and work. Brian has been a meditator and a devoted yoga practitioner for more than fifteen years, and a humanitarian and activist for nearly twenty-five years.

Brian is a senior teacher at OM yoga, teaches numerous weekly classes at OM and worked as OM's Director of Programming from 2001 to 2008. Brian's certifications include: OM yoga's teacher training, Yoga Alliance, Relax & Renew and the Shambhala Buddhist meditation program.

Locally, Brian co-taught and led yoga and meditation at the Fire Island Retreat Experience, recently taught a fifth year of Omega Institute's Being Fearless conference, has taught three Tricycle Magazine's Change Your Mind Day and represented OM in 2004 at the Gay Spirit Culture Project’s conference at the Garrison Institute; a bringing together of over a hundred national and international gay spiritual leaders. Recently he and other OM senior teachers accompanied Cyndi Lee teaching workshops as part of the Fit Yoga Conference.

He recently taught a week-long OM yoga retreat at Morgan’s Rock Ecolodge in Nicaragua , an OM retreat in Ilha Grande , Brazil , has also co-taught OM yoga retreats in Utah and Costa Rica and assisted Cyndi Lee and senior Shambhala teacher David Nichtern at many locales including London, the Omega Institute and Kripalu.

He is included in Cyndi Lee's book Yoga Body, Buddha Mind, has been featured on the cover and in the Shambhala Sun magazine, featured on NBC's Nightly News representing OM yoga and was just elected as one of 21 yoga teachers under 40, The Next Generation of Yoga Teachers by Yoga Journal magazine.

He thanks his primary teachers, Vincent & Evie Liem, Adam Gwosdof and Cyndi Lee for her continued wisdom, generosity and humor. He is honored to be part of the multifaceted wakefulness of the OM yoga center mandala.
