Restorative
Cyndi Lee on Restorative Yoga Teacher Training at OM yoga Ten years ago Judith Lasater taught a restorative class as part of a workshop at OM yoga Center. Most of us had never taken a restorative class before. At the end of the weekend Judith suggested to me that I add restorative yoga to the weekly schedule. I replied that I liked restorative yoga but I didn't feel confident to teach it and honestly, I wasn't sure if anybody would come. Well, times have changed and now we offer some form of restorative yoga daily. As OM yoga students' practices have matured they have begun to understand the value of resting as a balance to the activity of NY life and the exertion of their active asana practice. Margi and I took Judith's Relax and Renew Training in San Francisco about 7 years ago and since then Judith has taught it here at OM yoga twice and it has been attended by many OM yoga teachers. Restorative yoga has become an integral part of our practice and an essential skill set for today's yoga teachers. We are pleased to offer you three opportunities to learn how to teach Restorative Yoga, including the first Advanced Relax and Renew Training offered in New York City, which I'm personally looking forward to taking and will probably sell out so if you're interested, register now. Judith Lasater has taught Yoga since 1971 and holds workshops and retreats throughout the U.S. and abroad. She holds a doctorate in East-West psychology and is also a physical therapist. Having studied with B.K.S. Iyengar in India and the U.S., she is president of the California Teachers Association. She teaches yoga classes and trains yoga teachers in kinesiology, yoga therapeutics, and the Yoga Sutras at the Iyengar Yoga Institute of San Fransisco and at The Yoga Room in Berkely, CA. She writes extensively about yoga, and her feature articles, columns, and essays appear in numerous books, magazines, and anthologies. Margi Young moved from San Francisco to New York City to fulfill her childhood dream of becoming a dancer. It was after receiving an MFA in dance from New York University, teaching dance at various studios, and directing a small dance company that she realized that her yoga practice gave her joy far greater than her life as a dancer/choreographer. In 2000 she completed 2 yoga teacher training programs: one from OM yoga center and one in restorative yoga from Judith Lasater. She immediately started teaching at OM and has felt very privileged to go to work and be surrounded by open receptive barefoot people. Her teachers in the yoga world are Cyndi Lee and all the inspiring tutelage at OM, Genny Kapuler, Nina Gold, Patricia Walden, Kevin Gardner and Erich Schiffman. She is currently a senior teacher at OM, on the teacher training faculty, and teaches all levels of yoga and restorative yoga. In class she emphasizes correct alignment, deep work and intense relaxation so that the benefits and joys of yoga reveal themselves. |
